15 of 16 people found the following review helpful I like the Sigma 28-300 Macro, May 13, 2005 By  Digital Photographer "Used to Like Nikon,s" (Brooklyn, NY) - See all my reviews I,ve had the lens for about a year now, it was on old EOS body, not a problem with the interface between the Canon or the Sigma, worked just fine. I have heard about some incompatibility between Sigma and Canon, but has not happened to me. Recently bought the new Canon Eos Elan 7NE, the Sigma works perfectly with this body too. Optically, yes , there is some distortion at some focal lengths, but nothing really terrible, the color is excellent, it is sharp pretty much all around. Really love the lens. Detractors of this range of lens never discuss what it really does, its like having a whole camera bag full of lens and you are alway ready for anything, that is an enormous plus, and it does what it has to do pretty well, so, if you,re planning on shooting pictures for National Geographic, maybe this is not the lens for you, but if you are a guy or gal who loves photograpy, buy it, you can,t go wrong. The zoom is a little loose, and tends to creep. The zoom lock is a must when in the camera bag. It tends to be it's sharpest in the 28-150 range. Sun "evergain" (New York) - See all my reviews    I got this lens for about two months and tried in different lighting situations. My overall impression is that this is a vey convenient lens and saved you lots of trouble ccarrying around many lens. Two problems are obvious: barrel distortion at wide angle (under 40mm)is too serious (this I compared with Canon's 28-135mm); the squeaking sound of AF (even in one shot) is annoying.
